We hung out and ate dinner and had desert with them. It was a lot of fun spending time getting to know some of those who will be instrumental in our ministry here.

Towards the end of the evening Jacob was getting a little tired and was sitting on this ottoman thing and he was acting goofy and kept fall off.

Of course I said, " hey stop acting goofy your are going to fall off and hit your head."

Sure enough flop, bonk and the screaming started. So I picked him up. No big deal he has hit his head a gazillion times. It is by far the toughest spot on his body. The next thing I know is Jess is screaming something about gushing blood. I look and I am turning red quickly. So my first reaction is to run in the kitchen as to make sure that we don't get blood on the carpet. We apply some pressure and go to the bathroom to check it out. Yep, sure enough he gonna need stiches. ( I left out about 12 pages of Jess yell and moaning about her little boy and all the high pitched panicing she was doing)

So we take him to the hospital and he gets four staples to the head. He was great in the hospital.

He kept saying, " when is the nursey come and give me special medicine."

He was pretty sweet to his mommy on the ride to the hospital.

He was saying, "It's ok mommy. I all better now. I all better mommy. Yeah, it's better."

I kept wondering who was consoling who on the ride to the hospital.

So for the next week each time that we passed someone Jacob would ask them if they would like to see his staples. So here I am in the middle of walmart while blue haired old ladies have his head pinned to the car checking out his injury. He was reeling in the candy out of grandmas purses through out the isle of walmart.

From 4-wheelers to Tractors

Yeah you heard right. I moved. Yep, I have made the transition from four wheeler to tractors. Now in stead of sitting at four way stops watching four wheelers going by I watch as tractors pass by as if it were normal to jump on your John Deer or Case tractor and run to Walmart Supercenter for a dozen eggs.

Now I am sure your mind is full of flat, barren grid work of farmland that would resemble the Iowa or Nebraska. Well it looks nothing like that. Sparta area is full of rolling farmland broken up with thick hardwoods. My parents live just outside of town. They are two houses from the city limits. Now when I say city limits I am not talking about Hibbing. There the city limits were huge. From my understanding it is the largest town per square mile in MN. Here are a couple pictures of Sparta. This is what I see when I look out my parents window.

That is all for now. Here is a picture of New Life Assembly of God. This is a picture from the parking lot. the front faces the highway. Just on the otherside of the tall pines. The move went well. Luke O. was a huge help to us.
We have been in Sparta for about three weeks now. Things are starting to feel a little normal. I still fill as though I am visiting my family for vacation. Maybe that is because I am living with my parents. THey have been great! They travel to church every weekend so they are hardly home.

We have been looking at house for the past month. Last week we put a agreement on a house and we are still working out the conditions as week speak. We should know if we have an accepted offer in a couple weeks at the latest I hope. Then of course there is still the all the inspections, financing and contingencies to work through before we close. It is very hard to keep you heart out of the process. Your home is really just an extension of your heart, so it is hard not to fall in love with a home.

Here is a pic of Jacob and I in our butt stinking huge uhaul. The way that I got the truck was very amazing.

I went to some backwooods auto garage in Mt. Iron to pick up my reserved truck. Well some 70 year old guy new nothing about our reservation. The 26 foot truck was out in the parking lot. He tried to log on to Uhaul to check to see if he had any new reservations but he had never used the computer before. So after he spent about 20 minutes on the phone with his boss (young guy who uses the computer) he asked me if I could come back in a couple hours. I told him NO I am MOVING and am going to leave with that 26foot uhaul in about 30minutes. So he said you try and see if you can log on to the computer. So I logged on, and when through the process of registering myself. Runing my own creditcard and printed out all the necessary paper work. I signed a copy and left it on the desk. I grabbed the key and told the old iron ranger who was now under a vehicle smoking a cigarette that I was going to take the truck now. He mumbled a few cuss words and ended with becareful. I asked him how much he gets paid an hour he said $19 an hour I said Make the check for $19 to Aaron Broberg.

That was a great expierence to have as I prepared to move away from the Iron Range. I have been missing all of my friends in Hibbing alot lately. It is strange to be so closely knit with some many people and then be completely seperated from in a day. Weird. Hibbing was a great place to live and ministry. I will always have a soft spot for Hibbing. It was and is a great place to be a pastor.

My wifes Blog

Hey if you are interested in seeing a video of Levi and you have not visited my wifes blog CLICK HERE.
You can watch a video and check out what is up with our family.

Wow Another Kid

Today was the day. Levi Mark James Broberg was born at 7:50am on Tuesday, December 27th. A pretty great day as I look back on it.

I saw things today that I should never see again. First off C-sections are brutal. I always had this idea that doctors were neat and clean and orderly. But what I witnessed today destroyed that idea. Not that our doctor was poor or unskill to the contrary I think she is very skilled. To sit and the foot of the bed and see what actually goes on during a C-Section will make your head spin. It gave me a greater appreciation for how God has given our body the ability to heal.

One minute I am watching my wife being sew up with something that looks like it was used to create Frankenstien, and 4 hours later she is eating a McFlurry hanging out with a bunch of people. AMAZING. Even more unbelieveable is that in 3-6 weeks she will be moving around nurturing the boys she brought into the world. God was right we are fearfully and wonderfully made. I will leave you with a picture of me and my new born son.

Into the Hospital

Jessica and I are going into the hospital this morning for her C-section. Yesterday we broke all traditions and opened a few gifts in the morning. I of course blamed this on Jacob's desire for presents but really it was just me wanting to see him open some stuff. So we spent the morning enjoying a few presents and homemade cinnamon rolls.

Later on that evening we went to Christmas Eve service and then off to the Williamson's house for snacks and a few presents. It was great to go over to their house. Sue had a spread of food that was to die for. It was really great.

The Williamson's all got Christmas Eve PJ's. I got a picture of them next to the tree. From left to right it's Sydney, Jessica, Brittany, and Broc in the back.
It was very nice to spend time with teh Williamson's over Christmas. It was a great Christmas present to be able to be with a family that treats you just like family even when you are not their family. We had a great Christmas eve with the Williamsons. Speaking of presents I did get a a shop vac, Garage logic Cd, Sweet coffee grinder, and lots of other Caribou paraphenalia. Over all it was a great Christmas.
Tommorow we are going to transition from mellow relaxed Christmas house to "lets get ready for baby house" . Bring on another kid.

BTW if you need a Christmas laugh check out these two goof balls YoYo & Hoops.

How do you know you live in Hibbing?

If this happen to you on a daily basis then you live near or in Hibbing, MN.

When you approach a four way stop and you notice a car that has stopped at the four way stop to the right or left of you. Now you are about three blocks away, you expect the car to move through the intersection and you will precede with a yield instead of a full stop because that is what NORMALLY happens. Not in Hibbing. You will continue to pull up to the four way stop still waiting for the other car to cross. You come to a FULL stop...Wait...glare...and finally the person then WAVES YOU THROUGH the stop sign. WHAT! You have been sitting here for a full 5 minutes now! Why don't you go! Those are the things that go through my head. Truly my favorite thing about this Hib-like driving is when you are behind someone and they stop wait 30 minutes for another car to come and then wave them through!

When I first moved here I was about to go crazy. I actually almost killed 30 or 40 elderly people to are the founders of this Hib-like four way stop policy. But now I find myself stopping and waving people through. It is like a battle to see who can be more polite at the four way stops. So if you wondering if you are in Hibbing all you have to do is ask yourself, "have I been waved through a four way stop lately" if the answer is yes then your in Hib-town.

"Pray Dad"

The other night Jacob woke up crying. December it isn't too bad, but come March it really starts to get old. I was shoveling snow yesterday to make way for the party last night. As usual my trusty side kick was right there with me shoveling away.

The greatest thing about this pictures is that my son reminds me of Ralphy's brother in The Christmas Story. I am sure if he fell down there was no way he was going to get up. It was about 10 degrees yesterday and he kep saying, " haut dad haut". I am sure he was hot even though it was so cold. He was bundled up like the abominal snowman. This evening Jessica and I have invited all the Youth Pastors and spouses over for a Christmas Party. Jess and I are the "OLD" people in the section so we have decided to take some initiave and get our section rolling.

Tommorow we are going over to the Williamson's place for our staff and board Christmas Party. Then there is Sunday of course. You have church and sunday school. I get to do BGMC and a video discussion for the adults.

Today I am going to cut another tree. YES we have two! Also I am planning on making some garland. I am a little bit of a Christmas FREAK. Here are a couple childhood facts that support the former sentance.

I always put cookies and milk out for santa through out my highschool years. I would lay in our living room with chirstmas music and just stare at the tree. I wanted to get all the "Christmas" in because i knew it only lasted for a month. This may seem normal to some of you but for a freshman in highschool probably a little wierd. When I was toddler I made a baby Jesus out of dough with a cherrio for a crown. I still have it to this day, even though it is all dried and broken. i definately have Christmas issues.

The Tree

Every year we drive out to Brandon Christmas Tree Farm to cut down our Christmas tree. It is about thirty minutes outside of town. I can never remember to directions and usually make one or two wrong turns on our way. This year Grandma and Grandpa Lubenau went along for the family trip. Here is a bit of video of our Christmas tree cutting this year. With football, children's Ministry and Youth Group my posting habits have been compromised. So I will have to step it up once winter sets in. Speaking of winter it is a beautiful fall day out my window. I am looking at a nice red maple tree with small white flakes blowing by. It is our first snow fall of the year today. It is time to start cleaning up the garage and finishing up any yard and garden projects before the frost set in.

Speaking of the garden I collected the final harvest yesterday before the snow decided to fall. All I can say is Peppers Peppers Peppers. I think I picked over 80 nice peppers this year. I am sick of tomatoes (if that is possible) I have given so many away and they just keep coming and coming. Next year I am going to make Salsa. Here are a few pictures of the final harvest.

I just kept pick peppers after peppers. I think there were four bags of peppers. I guess it is time for some Fajitas.

For you Mom

This post is specifically for my mother who is living in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. A friend of mine, Matt Hagsten invited my to go to his families cabin. It is in the middle of no where. It was a great trip. Matt, Tony, Jason and I piled into my dodge dakota and made the four hour trip to the cabin.

Once we got up there we unloaded about a thousand pounds of food. Mostly consisting of pop and chips. We then walked through the largest cloud of mosquito's to the boat. As fast as possible we got our stuff into the boat and shoved off to make our way to the cabin.

Here is a picture of a small bay to the left of the Hagsten Retreat Center.

We did some fishing, cliff jumping, a lot of game playing and a little sleeping. While there I helped my mom and dad dig out some only landscaping rock which was half rock and half dirt. They were putting in a cobblestone side walk. It was hard labor, and since my mom and dad are getting older in years I helped with the physically hard part. Well my reward was this hydrendia bush. It is more like a tree. My mom was pretty sure it would not make it. Well I brought it home and re-organized my perennial garden to make some room for it. Here it is growing beautifully.

Good save. Here are a few pictures from my visit.

This is on Arizona Memorial looking up through the ceiling to the flag which is actual attached to the Arizona.

Front gun turrent of the Arizona

This writing is mounted at the base of the Flag pole.

If you ever have the opportunity to visit the Arizona Memorial it is a great place to remember the individual who gave their lives for a free America.

Lock Up

Every Wednesday I walk through the Church after youth service to make sure it is locked up. Yesterday Jacob and I did it together. He helped me turn off the lights and was running around saying whoa each time the lights went out. He thought it was great to run through the church empty and dark.

It was fun for me to go and lock up the Church with my boy. For some reason certain memories of my childhood are ingrained into my memory. One of them is locking up the Church with my Dad. I must have just been seven or eight years old, but I have distinct memories of setting the alarm system and running out before it when off. Funny how some memories just stick with you and others just slip away. That is one of many memories I have about Salt Lake City, Utah. So it was fun to do the same with my son here in Hibbing. Our system is not quite as high tech as Valley back in 1982. We use a sliding dead lock that is manual on two side doors. No keys necessary. Probably what you would see in a dungeon or prison or something.

Anyways, it was fun for me to do the same thing with my son that my Dad used to do with me. I am sure Jacob won't remember it but I definately will. BTW just for your information. It is May 12th and 20 degrees and snowing here this morning. Yeah!

Bitter to Sweet

It has been a long time since I last posted. I guess life has been busy.

Ex 15:22-27
22 Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea and they went into the Desert of Shur. For three days they traveled in the desert without finding water. 23 When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. (That is why the place is called Marah.) 24 So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, "What are we to drink?"
25 Then Moses cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became sweet.
There the LORD made a decree and a law for them, and there he tested them. 26 He said, "If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you."
27 Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs and seventy palm trees, and they camped there near the water.

This was a portion of my devos this morning. I wonder what "stuff" in my life would go from bitter to sweet if I just applied some simple obiedence. Isn't it easier to be satisfied with bitter water, especially when we are decieved to believe it is normal. hmmm. What am I drinking that I think is normal, but is actually bitter. Yuck! I better get my taste buds aligned with God's Spirit.

A Scary Day

Stomething strange is going on at the McPherson house. Here are a couple pictures I "borrowed" from the above site.

Two of my favorites. It seems that with the new government clan biased is still alive and well. New government officials are firing former employees and hiring clan/family members take their positions. Not that I blame them. Jobs are non-existent and government jobs pay well. When you are in survival situations are you going to provide for your family or someone else? The best way to get rid of corruption is to leave the old communist ways behind and create an atmosphere where all people can have an opportunity to make some a living to support your family.

Feliks Kulov, former political prisoner was release the day the protest turned revolution. I get in my Explorer to go to get coffee and I begin to back up and it stalls. So I start it up again and pull forward and it stalls. CRAP! I thinking my altenator is all jacked up. But I notice that my gas tank is completely empty. So I think I must of ran out of gas. So instead of drinking a great cup of coffee and Blogging I am sitting in the hotel drinking instant coffee watching the news and playing on my laptop.

I guess I will wait until some other pastor wakes up so that I can get a ride to the gas station to get a gallon of gas so I can be on my way today. Not what I really wanted to do this morning. Man, I have a hard life...lol...I hope that it is a gas problem vs. a real problem.

Speaking of woes. Spend the evening with my son playing in the yard and watching the dark clouds hang on the horizon. Every fifteen minutes or so we were reminded of the coming storm with cracks of rumbling thunder in the distance.

With each roll of thunder Jacob would point to the sky and say waassaattt? So I picked all the toys out of the yard, I relized this would be my new job in life, and went inside to enjoy our first thunderstorm of the season.

Thunderstorms are wonderful, especially in the country. They remind you of how great and powerful mother nature is, aka "God". Hibbing is especially spectacular for weather. Lots of snow, beautiful northren lights, great cloud structure, and awesome sunsets. I believe God brought me to hibbing because he knows how I enjoy all of these things. Of course there are alot of other reasons but that is just one that was just for me personally.

Easter Week Wrap-up

Easter has come and gone. My in-laws were up for the week. It was fun to have them around. They spent their time trying to spoil our son. I spent the earlier part of the week fixing my truck in Phil's Garage. Here are some pictures for you to enjoy.

For some reason I am really in love with this picture. Cornerstone Assembly of God in Austin MN just bought a theater to begin remodeling to be their new church. On Thursday the roof fell in and the whole building colapsed. You can read the news article here: Austin Daily Herald The good thing was that there was nobody in the building and they just raised the insurance value.

My favorite quote from the news article is from Cory Geotz.
"It's never a good sign," he said, "to see a fireman standing in front of your building with an axe."

Read the news story. Cory has some good statements. The fire chief and Dave are starting to be good friends over the past year. Maybe he will get saved. I am excited to see how God turns this into a blessing.

Kyrgyzstan Revolts

Got a letter from my parents telling me that there is a revolt in Bishkek the capital city of Kyrgyzstan. The government has been over thrown and a new government is now in place. This government holds no authority.
